For luxurious cat furniture, it is still very difficult to find fabrics made with recycling in mind. After a very long search, our choice came down to a workshop that makes velvet fabrics from recycled bottles. They are cleaned and then transformed into granules and weaving fibres in Italy.

Velvet is a thick, durable fabric that is perfect for our modern cat beds and cushions. It is soft to the touch and gives your cat a sense of pleasure. It is easy to care for and can be gently machine washed for the cushions and sponged for the beds.

The choice of cork for our luxury cat trees

To guarantee cat trees made from natural wood, Bogarel has chosen the protected Portuguese cork industry:

For its designer cat trees, Bogarel has chosen cork from the cork oak forest named La Dehesa in Portugal. This cork is guaranteed FSC ( Forest Stewardship Council). This international organisation ensures that forests are managed according to ecological and social criteria. The cork is taken from the tree, but the tree regenerates itself throughout its 170-year life! This means that the trees can absorb CO2 throughout their existence.

Bogarel uses cork for its wooden cat trees which is a fireproof, durable and resistant material that is neither too soft nor too stiff. It is comfortable and appreciated by animals. Naturally antistatic, it reduces the presence of dust and hair on the furniture.

The choice of solid ash wood for our cat trees and cat beds :

The solid wood collection is made up of designer cat trees and modern cat beds. Ash is known for its hardness and durability. Its grain is unique and elegant. It is very popular for its contemporary look. It comes from protected forests located in the Auvergne Rhône Alpes region (France). This wood is guaranteed by PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) which certifies the sustainable and eco-responsible management of the forest.

Each cat treewooden cat bed is made with talent and passion by our woodturner, Emmanuel Landais, in his workshop located in Isère. He has a precious and rare know-how, inherited from his family, and is one of the last craftsmen to master this art. Each sphere and each half-sphere tells the unique story of the wood from which it is shaped by hand on the wood lathe.

The wicker spheres of our luxury cat furniture are made of wicker strands hand-picked in winter from soft willow trees. To obtain white-coloured wicker, the freshly harvested wicker strands must be peeled by hand. Without this step, the raw wicker retains its brown colour. Wicker is inherently durable, strong and healthy. It is also biodegradable.

To make the wicker spheres of our cat furniture, we work with basket makers:

For its handmade cat trees and cat beds, Bogarel turned to a committee of basket makers located in Haute-Marne who grow and harvest the wicker themselves. They have a know-how of weaving which is passed on from generation to generation. They have mastered up to 16 different braiding techniques.

The rope used for our scratchers comes from hemp cultivation. It is an ecological crop that is simple and requires little water. No chemicals or pesticides are needed as it does not attract insects or rodents.

Hemp rope scratching posts are more durable. It is the strongest natural fibre, resistant to friction and wear, which makes it very suitable for manufacturing the cat scratchers . It is durable and does not burn the skin.

Design furniture that meets the needs of cats thanks to Valérie Mounier, professional breeder

Valérie Mounier's expertise in animal well-being

The adventure started in 2010 when Valerie went to a cat show near Paris where she fell in love with British Shorthair cats. She then dreamed of becoming a professional breeder. After training and extensive research, she opened a human-sized cattery in the Plaine de Versailles: Le Clos d'Eugénie.

Valérie Mounier used many different cat furniture and accessories, but none of them fully met her expectations. The adoptive families also testified to their difficulties in finding furniture that combined aesthetics and the cat's well-being.

Her collaboration with designer Sacha Lakic began with the aim of overcoming this shortcoming.
